FM Muhriddin Meets US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation

DUSHANBE, 04.05.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad.
The meeting focused on bilateral relations, as well as regional and multilateral cooperation.
The officials considered various aspects of the current situation in Afghanistan, in particular the process of inter-Afghan peace talks, preparations for the upcoming conference in Istanbul, the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan, and regional and global issues.
Muhriddin emphasised Tajikistan’s position and support of Afghanistan’s government and international community in ensuring security, peace, and stability.
While discussing bilateral relations in a multilateral format, the parties expressed satisfaction with the cooperation and coordination of positions within international organizations, in particular the UN, as well as the fight against terrorism and extremism.
In this regard, they noted the need to strengthen cooperation in the joint fight against modern threats and challenges, including against terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and other transnational organized crimes.
The officials also exchanged views on the importance of further pursuing issues of development and expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the USA.
