Tehran Hosts a Press Conference on Tajikistan’s Presidency in the SCO

DUSHANBE, 01.06.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – On May 30, the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Iran Nizomiddin Zohidi held a press conference for the local media on the priorities of Tajikistan’s presidency in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO, 2020-2021).
In his speech, Zohidi noted that during its presidency, Tajikistan aims to strengthen friendship and good-neighborliness between the member states, maintaining peace, security and stability in the region, building up cooperation in trade and economic and cultural and humanitarian spheres, improve the regulatory framework and expand cooperation instruments within the organization.
He emphasized that Tajikistan seeks to promote cooperation in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, drug trafficking and transnational organized crime, which has been the main focus of the organization since its inception, and also to adopt necessary measures to achieve the implementation of Tajikistan’s initiative to establish the SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe.
Referring to the priorities of Tajikistan’s presidency in various spheres of SCO activity, the Tajik Ambassador stressed that the events held in the spheres of politics, security, economy, and culture will contribute to the development of the organization’s activities, strengthen its authority in the international arena, expand cooperation of the SCO with regional partner organizations, and in general to solve the most important tasks facing the SCO today.
The Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO, summarizing Tajikistan’s presidency in the SCO in 2020-2021 is scheduled for September 16-17, 2021 in Dushanbe.
