Foreign Ministry: Tajikistan Will Not Recognize Any Government Formed Without a Referendum and Representatives of All Ethnic Groups in Afghanistan

DUSHANBE, 08.09.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – On September 8, at the suggestion of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the first meeting of the foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, namely Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Iran and China took place in a virtual format.
The ministers stressed the need to promote this format for discussing the current situation in Afghanistan as a new mechanism for cooperation between the neighboring countries.
The sides stressed that the international community, in cooperation with the countries of the region, should play an important role in establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan and provide it with the necessary economic, social, and humanitarian assistance.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin noted that only an inclusive government with the participation of all ethnic groups and national minorities will resolve the political problems and security of Afghanistan. He added that Tajikistan will not recognize any government formed without a referendum and representatives of all ethnic groups.
