DUSHANBE, 12.11.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – On Wednesday, the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection Bahodur Sheralizoda spoke at the COP26 in Glasgow.
Sheralizoda drew the attention of the ministers and heads of delegations to President Emomali Rahmon’s initiative to declare 2025 the International Year of Glacier Protection, and determine an annual date, as well as to create a Glacier Protection Fund in Tajikistan.
He noted that about 60% of the total volume of water resources in the region is formed in Tajikistan, which plays a huge role in the process of sustainable development of Central Asian countries.
The Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection emphasized that, despite the minimum amount of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, Tajikistan is the most vulnerable country in relation to the effects of climate change.
Sheralizoda stressed that Tajikistan is ready to continue to closely cooperate with the UN, partner countries, international donors, and organizations to ensure the necessary actions in the fight against climate change and its harmful consequences.
