New York Hosts Briefing on Dushanbe Process on Countering Terrorism

DUSHANBE, 16.09.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On September 14, the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan to the United Nations and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) held a joint virtual briefing on the upcoming High-Level International Conference on «International and Regional Border Security and Management Cooperation to Counter Terrorism and Prevent the Movement of Terrorists,» which will be held from October 18 through October 19 in Dushanbe.
Tajikistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Jonibek Hikmat and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Director of the UNOCT Vladimir Voronkov provided detailed information on the program and organizational-protocol arrangements, as well as on the initiatives and efforts of Tajikistan in this direction and the Dushanbe process on combating terrorism and its financing.
Hikmat expressed his confidence that the Dushanbe Conference will give a new impetus to the joint fight against security threats and will serve as an important platform for constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation among all stakeholders to strengthen international and regional security.
Voronkov highlighted the valuable role of the government of Tajikistan in strengthening multilateral cooperation against terrorism, including through its collaboration with the UNOCT.
More than 90 participants, including UN representatives and international experts, participated in the briefing.
The Permanent Representatives of Uzbekistan, Tunisia, Spain, Sri-Lanka, Kiribati, and delegates from Saudi Arabia, China, Morocco, and the European Union underscored Tajikistan’s significant contribution in terms of international initiatives in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
Following the briefing, Hikmat and Voronkov called on member states to ensure high-level participation of their delegations in the event.
