New Edition of the Red Book of Tajikistan Will Include 304 Species of Plants and 253 Species of Rare Animals

DUSHANBE, 10.10.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – Scientists and specialists of the Committee for Environmental Protection, the National Academy of Sciences, employees of relevant ministries and departments are preparing for re-release the third edition of the Red Book of Tajikistan.
The new edition of the Red Book of Tajikistan will include 304 species of plants and 253 species of rare animals that are endangered. Some species of plants and animals will be excluded from the Red Book of Tajikistan due to their current status.
The Red Book of Tajikistan summarizes all available information about the status, distribution, condition of the group, changes in the number of rare animals and plants, determination of further research tasks and the main ways of their protection and reproduction.
The flora and fauna of Tajikistan, despite the small territory of the country, is very rich and diverse. According to the latest data, more than 13 thousand species of animals live in Tajikistan and about 5,000 species of plants grow. The habitat of 80 percent of all species of animals and plants is in mountainous areas. Due to the fact that more than 70 percent of the republic’s residents use natural resources in one way or another, the degree of human impact on nature is especially great.
