Tajik Foreign Ministry: Reports Circulated by Some Media about China’s Alleged Establishment of a Military Base in Tajikistan Are Groundless

DUSHANBE, 12.07.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the reports circulated by some media about China’s alleged establishment of a military base on the territory of Tajikistan groundless.
The ministry stated that Tajikistan and China are sincere strategic partners and cooperation between the two countries is developing dynamically in all areas.
It was said that Dushanbe and Beijing actively cooperate on issues of countering challenges and threats both bilaterally and within the framework of international and regional organizations.
In this context, Tajikistan aims to further develop and deepen cooperation with China in exchanging experience, introducing best practices and strengthening the capacity of relevant agencies to identify and address challenges and threats in a timely manner.
“We also intend to strengthen cooperation with Beijing in combating the forces of “three evils”, trans-border organized crime, including drug trafficking and cybercrime,” reads the ministry’s statement.
It should also be noted that the two countries have established the necessary mechanisms for conducting joint activities for training and improving personnel for border and law enforcement agencies.
The statement also noted that with regard to the reports circulated by some media about China’s alleged establishment of a military base on the territory of Tajikistan, we would like to state that they are groundless. This issue has not been and is not on the agenda of the Tajik-Chinese negotiations.
