The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, in his Address to the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan “On the main directions of the domestic and foreign policy of the Republic of Tajikistan”, delivered on December 16, 2025, in order to expand development and construction works, further strengthen the sense of pride in independence and freedom, the recognized ancient civilization, the ancient and rich history of the Tajik nation, and to welcome the 35th anniversary of state independence, declared 2026 as the “Year of expanding development and construction works and strengthening national self-knowledge and self-awareness”.
The main goal of declaring 2026 as the “Year of expanding development and construction works and strengthening national self-knowledge and self-awareness” is to carry out development and construction works in regions, cities, and districts, and at the same time, to further raise the level of national self-knowledge and self-awareness of the population based on ancient history and rich national culture.
The year 2026 is a very important and historic year for the people of Tajikistan, because this year the honorable people of Tajikistan will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan. In other words, our ancient but newly independent Tajikistan is entering a new stage of its development.
We recall that in the past five years, all segments of society have been working together to meet this historic date and are carrying out major development and construction works. According to statistics, out of 29 thousand structures and buildings planned in honor of the 35th anniversary of state independence, more than 26 thousand structures have been put into operation to date, more than 70 percent of which were built with the contribution of entrepreneurs and citizens.
Also, on the basis of a deeper understanding of our ancient history and culture and following the good traditions of our state-building and civilized ancestors, we must further expand the construction and creative work in anticipation of this sacred holiday, and hold festive events at a high organizational and political level that strengthen national self-knowledge and self-awareness.
In this process, every citizen and every family, aware of their responsibility for national and state building, should, first of all, pay serious attention to the repair and renovation of their homes, streets, and living spaces, and to keeping them clean and tidy. The process of improvement and cleanliness should cover the entire territory of the country, from the centers to the most remote villages, and become a permanent action and a national culture.
That is, every member of society should, in honor of this sacred holiday, make a worthy contribution to the progress of the state and the prosperity of their beloved homeland, and by performing good deeds, constructive and creative work, and decent behavior, present the ancient culture and civilization and the originality of the Tajik nation to the world.
In this context, increasing the level of knowledge and enlightenment, strengthening the sense of self-knowledge and self-awareness of every resident of the country is considered an important task of the day, requiring the implementation of significant practical work.
The ultimate goal of declaring 2026 as the «Year of expanding development and construction works and strengthening national self-knowledge and self-awareness» is to further improve and beautify the beloved homeland, raise the level of well-being of the population, as well as to become more familiar with the rich national history, ancient and universal culture, and to be self-conscious and self-aware.
