DUSHANBE, 19.02.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan has introduced a state-of-the-art Microwave Ablation (MWA) device for the diagnosis and treatment of liver tumors and other complex oncological conditions.
For the first time, this modern technology was successfully applied at the Republican Scientific Oncology Center, performing minimally invasive MWA procedures for liver tumors. The device enables precise diagnosis and targeted treatment of cancer, marking a significant step forward in interventional oncology and minimally invasive surgery in Tajikistan.
Microwave ablation uses high-frequency electromagnetic energy to raise tissue temperatures, inducing coagulative necrosis of tumor cells. The method is highly effective, safe, and suitable for patients who cannot undergo traditional surgery. It allows complete treatment of small benign and malignant tumors with minimal risk, and patients typically return home within 24 hours.
Previously, such procedures required citizens to travel abroad at considerable expense. Now, advanced cancer care is available domestically.
