This initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Mr. Emomali Rahmon, to establish the Abu Ali ibn Sina International Award in Medicine represents an extraordinary step at the international level and a significant milestone in the global study of the scientific legacy of this distinguished son of the Tajik people. The initiative will substantially promote medical science and strengthen the international healthcare system.

It is particularly noteworthy that health and sanitation hold a central place in the scientific legacy of Abu Ali ibn Sina, and subjects related to human health, the environment, and the prevention of infectious diseases are covered widely  throughout his scholarly works. Thanks to this enduring legacy, ibn Sina remains, even today, a spiritual and intellectual companion to humanity.

The scientific research, theories, and practical guidance of Abu Ali ibn Sina not only retained their scholarly and applied value to this day, but also have been helping to safeguard the health of the global community, particularly in the prevention of infectious diseases that have raised profound concern across the world in recent years; many of them have since been confirmed through modern scientific methods.

Today, the State Medical University of Tajikistan bears his name, as does one of the districts of the capital, Dushanbe.

In addition, each year on 18 August — the birthday of Abu Ali ibn Sina — in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Public Holidays,” the country observes the professional holiday of healthcare workers.

The establishment of the Abu Ali ibn Sina International Award in Medicine, as a new initiative of the Leader of the Nation, marks an important step toward promoting Tajik medical science worldwide and preserving the memory of the eminent sons of the Tajik people. It reaffirms that Sheikh-ur-Rais Abu Ali ibn Sina — the greatest Tajik philosopher, scholar, physician, and poet — made an extraordinary contribution to world civilization, and that his name endures as priceless and immortal for all humanity.

The establishment of this award by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan is a recognition of outstanding achievements in medicine at the international level. The Decree also addresses the founding, the drafting and approval of governing regulations, and the formation of the Award’s Fund.

This initiative seeks to encourage scholars in medicine both within the country and internationally. It once again attests to the ancient traditions of the Tajik medical science and contributes meaningfully to resolving present-day challenges in the international healthcare and sanitation.

The Award will be presented to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to international healthcare and to global medical science.

It may be confidently affirmed that this initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, will play a significant role in addressing global health challenges and, like his other initiatives of global significance, will receive the support of the international community.
