Tajikistan and Georgia Hold High-Level Government Talks to Expand Bilateral Cooperation

On June 19, a meeting and negotiations between the Governments of the Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia were held in Dushanbe with the participation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kokhir Rasulzoda, and the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze.
The Prime Ministers of Tajikistan and Georgia first held a tête-à-tête meeting to discuss the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations.
The talks then continued in an expanded format with the participation of official delegations from both countries.
Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda described the first official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Tajikistan as historic, noting that it marks the beginning of a new and important stage in relations between Tajikistan and Georgia.
According to the Prime Minister of Tajikistan, relations between the peoples of the two countries are founded on trust, mutual respect, and sincerity, and Tajikistan highly values the rich culture and unique traditions of the Georgian people.
It was noted that, throughout the shared history of the two nations, Georgian friends have made a significant contribution to the development of science, construction, architecture, and healthcare in Tajikistan.
In this context, particular attention was drawn to the naming of a street in central Dushanbe after the distinguished son of the Georgian people, the classical poet Shota Rustaveli, as well as the unveiling of his bust on that street during the visit. These events were described as symbols of the spiritual and cultural affinity, as well as the sincere friendship, between the peoples of the two countries.
The parties noted with satisfaction that bilateral trade turnover increased by more than 37 percent in 2025 and by 64 percent during the first four months of 2026, reflecting a positive trend in economic cooperation.
Both sides emphasized the importance of utilizing the existing opportunities and resources of Tajikistan and Georgia to further increase the volume of bilateral trade.
During the official negotiations, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to strengthen cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, transport and logistics, energy, industry, agriculture, education, culture, and tourism.
In this regard, special emphasis was placed on the establishment of the Tajikistan–Georgia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, the effective use of transit opportunities, including Georgia’s road and maritime transport corridors, and the exchange of experience in the modernization of Tajikistan’s hydropower sector and the attraction of investment in green energy projects.
The parties also discussed the creation of joint ventures in the light, textile, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as the establishment of direct cooperation between relevant agricultural institutions and producers to study and apply Georgia’s advanced experience in modern agricultural technologies, irrigation systems, intensive horticulture and viticulture, livestock breeding in mountainous areas, and the broader development of the agro-industrial sector.
Particular attention was also given to strengthening cooperation in science and education, promoting exchanges of scholars and students, organizing cultural programs, exhibitions, festivals, and cultural days in both countries, and enhancing cooperation in the tourism sector.
The parties further discussed the effective use of the tourism potential of Tajikistan and Georgia, the exchange of best practices in the development of eco-tourism, mountain tourism, and medical tourism, as well as the establishment of direct and regular air links between the two countries.
