Flood Aftermath in Rushon District Under Government Supervision

DUSHANBE, July 22, 2026 (NIAT Khovar) – The aftermath of mudflows that affected the villages of Barrushon and Dehrushon in Rushon District of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) is being addressed under the supervision of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

According to the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of Tajikistan, the mudflows that occurred on July 20 damaged 40 residential houses.

The disaster was caused by rising temperatures and the melting of snow and glaciers in high mountain areas. In Barrushon village, the mudflow affected residential buildings, while in Dehrushon village of the Nazarshoh Dodikhudoev rural community, it damaged houses, agricultural land, a sports ground, streets and pedestrian areas.

Preliminary assessments show that in Barrushon, 10 houses were completely destroyed, 6 partially damaged, and 14 slightly affected. In Dehrushon, 4 houses sustained partial damage and 6 minor damage. In total, 198 family members were affected by the natural disaster.

A task force and special equipment have been deployed to the affected areas. The regional Emergency Commission, together with specialists from the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense, is conducting a preliminary assessment of the damage.

Three front loaders and two excavators have been involved in restoration efforts to eliminate the consequences of the disaster.

A meeting on disaster response measures in GBAO was also held under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the region Sharifkhon Safarzoda. It was emphasized that, in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, residential houses of citizens affected by the disaster will be fully restored.

Until the completion of construction works, the affected residents have been assigned to regional and district institutions for temporary support.

Following the instructions of the Head of State, relevant officials were tasked with constructing residential houses for affected families within one month.

Currently, clearing of mudflow channels, restoration of roads and other infrastructure facilities continue in the affected areas. The progress of recovery operations remains under constant supervision of state authorities.
