Tajikistan Becomes Main Exporter of Cement to Uzbekistan

DUSHANBE, 24.08.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan has become the main exporter of cement to Uzbekistan. This was reported by the Committee for Statistics of Uzbekistan.
According to the committee, from January through July 2022, 1.3 million tons of cement were imported to Uzbekistan for a total amount of $52.5 million.
For 7 months of 2022, Uzbekistan purchased 533,000 tons of cement from Tajikistan.
In general, the import of this product to the neighboring country has significantly decreased, the department stressed. Thus, from January through July, the import of cement decreased by 421,000 tons compared to the same period in 2021.
The committee also named other exporters of this product to Uzbekistan. Following Tajikistan is Kyrgyzstan. 385,000 tons of cement were delivered from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan.
The third place is ranked by Kazakhstan, which delivered 353,000 tons of this product to Uzbekistan in 7 months of 2022. Turkmenistan occupies fourth place by a strong margin. Tashkent received only 11.5 thousand tons of cement from Turkmenistan. Uzbekistan imported 6.7 thousand tons from Iran, and 1.4 thousand tons from China. The list of cement exporters is closed by Russia. During the specified period of time, 782 tons of goods were received from Russia to Uzbekistan.
Tajikistan continues to actively supply cement to Uzbekistan, however, the production of this substance in the republic for 6 months of 2022 decreased by 7.3% (or almost 157,000 tons) compared to the same period last year.
According to the country’s industrial sector, in the first half of the year the republic received about 2 million tons of cement.
Previously, Tajikistan sent abroad more than 1.5 million tons of such goods every year. Its traditional customers are Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
