Tajikistan Imports Goods Worth Over $5 Billion in First Half of 2026

DUSHANBE, July 26, 2026 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan imported goods worth $5.2243 billion from foreign markets in the first six months of 2026, an increase of $1.4031 billion, or 36.7 percent, compared to the same period in 2025.
According to the data, imports accounted for 76.8 percent of the country’s total foreign trade turnover, while exports represented 23.2 percent.
During the reporting period, the largest import items included petroleum products worth $494.7 million, passenger vehicles worth $350.3 million, wheat worth $171.6 million, liquefied gas worth $164.3 million, fruit and vegetable products worth $92.9 million, timber and wood products worth $92.6 million, mobile phones registered through the imei.tj portal worth $85.6 million, vegetable oil worth $71.4 million, sugar worth $54 million, aluminum oxide (alumina) worth $47.5 million, chicken meat worth $31.4 million, mineral fertilizers worth $24.6 million, beef worth $19 million, flour worth $11.4 million, and cement worth $3.8 million.
Compared to the first half of 2025, imports of several major goods increased. The volume of imported passenger vehicles grew by 1,695 units, or 5.6 percent; vegetable oil by 6,687 tonnes, or 11.8 percent; petroleum products by 60,976 tonnes, or 5.4 percent; wheat by 39,605 tonnes, or 6.4 percent; chicken meat by 3,142 tonnes, or 64.7 percent; liquefied gas by 64,177 tonnes, or 36.3 percent; and mobile phones by 59,055 units, or 12.9 percent.
At the same time, imports of aluminum oxide (alumina) decreased by 30,593 tonnes, or 29.9 percent; mineral fertilizers by 35,880 tonnes, or 33.9 percent; timber by 20,392 tonnes, or 9.5 percent; and sugar by 12,761 tonnes, or 13.6 percent.
The volume of imports from a number of countries increased during the period, including China by $362.3 million, Russia by $224.6 million, Kazakhstan by $174.6 million, Germany by $36.1 million, Iran by $29.9 million, the Republic of Korea by $26.7 million, Kyrgyzstan by $17 million, the United Arab Emirates by $14.6 million, Türkiye by $11.5 million, and Vietnam by $11.4 million.
Meanwhile, imports from the United Kingdom decreased by $15.5 million, Pakistan by $10.3 million, Uzbekistan by $6.8 million, the United States by $5.8 million, the Netherlands by $3.8 million, India by $3.1 million, and France by $4.4 million.
