Tajik Delegation Participates in the High-Level Segment of the 52nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva

DUSHANBE, 01.03.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On February 27, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Muzaffar Huseinzoda delivered a statement in the High-Level Segment of the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
He reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to cooperation with the UN structures, including the special procedures.
It was emphasized that under the Government gender policy, women’s activism in the public sphere is being encouraged, and strengthening women’s political participation and increasing the number of women in public service is a priority of the National Development Strategy for the period up to 2030.
In continuation of his speech, Deputy FM mentioned the impact of the climate change and its consequences on the effective enjoyment of human rights for millions of people, as well as Tajikistan’s active promotion of an integrated approach to addressing water and climate issues.
Particularly, it was highlighted that on December 14, 2022 the UNGA at the initiative of Tajikistan unanimously adopted the resolution to declare 2025 as the «International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation» and March 21 as the «World Day of Glaciers».
Also, taking into consideration that human rights to water and sanitation are essential for eradicating poverty and building peaceful and prosperous societies, Huseinzoda underlined the commitment of Tajikistan to fulfill the obligations to improve access to clean drinking water and sanitation. In this regard, the UN Water Conference to be held in March 2023 and co-hosted by Tajikistan and the Netherlands was accentuated.
