DUSHANBE, 21.06.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – Three Tajik athletes are taking part in the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023.

The event brings together about 7,000 track and field athletes with mental disorders and severe mental retardation from around the world in 26 sports.

Tajik athletes take part in competitions in two types of athletics — running and table tennis.

The Ambassador of Tajikistan to Germany Imomuddin Sattorov, who was present at the official ceremony, welcomed the Tajik athletes during the general passage at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin and wished them success and victories in participating in the competition.

A group of Tajiks living in Berlin and family members of Tajik diplomats also came to the sports arena to cheer for compatriots.

The first world-famous Summer Olympic Games were held in Chicago in 1968, and all competitions are held every four years in different countries. A total of 5.2 million athletes from 174 countries are part of this movement.

The World Games is the largest multi-sectoral event in Germany since the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and is held in Germany for the first time.

The World Games are drawing increasing attention to the practical implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and provide an opportunity to participate more actively in social life and especially in sports.

Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 will end on June 25.
