DUSHANBE, July 22, 2026 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik students have won one silver medal, two bronze medals and one honourable mention at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), held in Shanghai, China, reports the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan.

The International Mathematical Olympiad is one of the world’s most prestigious intellectual competitions for secondary school students. Held annually, it brings together the most talented young mathematicians from more than 100 countries. This year, 117 teams competed by solving six challenging mathematical problems.

Tajikistan’s achievement is viewed as a continuation of the country’s successful participation in the IMO and reflects the effectiveness of measures aimed at supporting talented students, developing logical thinking, and strengthening the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

The growing interest among young people in mathematics and other exact sciences has been encouraged by consistent state support for science and education. In his Address to the Parliament on December 26, 2019, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon proposed declaring 2020–2040 the “Twenty Years of the Study and Development of Natural, Exact and Mathematical Sciences in Education and Science” to further improve the teaching of these disciplines and promote technical thinking among the younger generation.

The results achieved by Tajik students at the international competition demonstrate the progress made in developing academic talent and expanding the country’s participation in global scientific and educational events.
