DUSHANBE, 03.04.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACCC) started in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and will continue until tomorrow, said Khovar’s correspondent Ibodat Davlatzoda, reporting from the conference.

More than 300 participants from leading national, regional and international organizations and agencies are in attendance. Those representing Tajikistan include employees of the Hydrometeorology Agency, Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Finance and local public organizations.

The main goal of the conference is to promote regional cooperation and partnership in the field of climate change in Central Asia. The event also aims to enhance regional dialogue, exchange of knowledge, information, improve decision-making on climate change, and contribute to the development of a climate-resilient future.

The conference highlights the importance of the implementation of multilateral development programs in the Aral Sea region and attracting additional investments supporting the region’s sustainable development initiatives.

Following the conference, a final document containing recommendations on adaptation to climate change and strengthening multilateral cooperation on climate policy will be prepared.

The conference is a continuation of the World Bank’s initiative to exchange knowledge and information on climate change in Central Asia, supported by the Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin (CAMP4ASB).

The Central Asian region is one of the most vulnerable areas to the effects of climate change. The retreating glaciers, along with the increasing frequency of natural disasters and an increased degree of aridity are just a few factors that can lead to great damage to the economic stability and food security of the region.
