EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti Praises Tajikistan Economic Success
DUSHANBE, 01.07.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Following the meeting with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti shared his opinion about the meeting.
“The EBRD is one of the major investors in Tajikistan. To date, the bank has invested about $755 million in 127 projects in various sectors of the economy of Tajikistan,” noted Chakrabarti.
The meeting focused on the implementation of several more projects that will contribute to deepening cooperation between the EBRD and Tajikistan.
“Tajikistan achieved significant economic success in recent years, which has increased the flow of investment into the country. Significant success was achieved thanks to the direct support and political will of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon,” said Chakrabarti.
This year, Tajikistan and the EBRD are planning to sign the Strategic Agreement for the period until 2024.
In Tajikistan, the EBRD aims to stabilize and restore confidence in the banking sector, develop private enterprises and agribusiness, increase the availability, reliability and quality of municipal services and improve the quality of energy supply, regulation and energy efficiency.
During his visit Chakrabarti will also meet with representatives of small and medium-sized businesses and take part in a public event.
This is Chakrabarti’s second visit to Tajikistan. The first took place in 2014.
