Tajikistan and China Agree to Accelerate the Implementation of Infrastructure Projects

DUSHANBE, 09.12.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – China is the third largest trading partner of Tajikistan and makes a significant contribution to investment and development of the national economy. This was stated at the 11th meeting of the Tajik-Chinese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which was chaired by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda and Chinese Deputy Minister of Commerce Yu Jianhua.
The parties agreed to take the necessary measures to accelerate the implementation of infrastructure projects. In particular the Chinese side will send other specialists to ensure the timely construction of the new parliament and government complex as soon as possible, as well as for the reconstruction of roads in Bokhtar, Kulob, and a section of Kulob-Muminobod highway. The importance of resuming the work of the Tajik-Chinese Mining Company was also emphasized.
The Chinese side informed that more than 1000 specialists are involved in the work on registered projects in Tajikistan and they have already started their work.
The parties noted that it is necessary to deepen the partnership, improve the implementation of investment projects in priority areas, including the industrialization of the country, create industrial enterprises and develop logistics and export infrastructure with the attraction of Chinese investment.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the foreign trade turnover of Tajikistan and China in 2019 amounted to $660.9 million.
Within the framework of technical agreements in 2018-2019, China attracted 1.7 billion yuan for the development of the social and economic infrastructure of Tajikistan.
