Tajik Delegation Attends UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon

DUSHANBE, 29.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik delegation took part in the opening ceremony of the 2022 UN Ocean Conference under the theme “Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation,” which is ongoing from June 27 through July 1 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The delegation is headed by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma. The delegation also includes Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sharaf Sheralizoda and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea Sulton Rahimzoda.
President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta co-chaired the UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
The Conference brought together politicians, representatives of civil society, private sector and international organizations, including 25 heads of state and government and thousands of government officials, scientists from 120 countries, representatives of 38 specialized agencies and international organizations, nearly 1,200 non-governmental organizations and other entities, more than 400 companies and 150 universities.
Amongst the outputs of the conference, countries will agree on an action plan that calls for a collective global response to addressing the ocean’s degradation. The final draft of the Political Declaration, to be adopted at the closing plenary, sets out specific science-based and innovative actions, taking into account the capacity challenges of developing countries, in particular Small Island Developing States and Least Developed Countries.
