DUSHANBE, 25.07.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, on the basis of the instructions of President Emomali Rahmon, 146 Tajik citizens will be repatriated by a charter flight from Syria.
Repatriation of Tajik citizens, especially minors from war-torn Iraq and Syria, is one of the issues that are in the center of constant attention of President.
On February 15, 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin had noted that over 260 women and children from Tajikistan were in the camps in al-Hawl and al-Ravj in Syria at that time.
According to him, per President Emomali Rahmon’s instruction on repatriating Tajik women and children from the war-torn countries of the Middle East, Tajik diplomats paid a working visit to Syrian al-Khawl and al-Ravj camps in December 2020, where they met with Tajik citizens.
“The Ministry has authorized the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Syria to closely cooperate with the government of Syria in order to repatriate those currently in the camps,” Muhriddin had noted during that time.
Per President Emomali Rahmon’s instructions with the support of Tajikistan’s government in collaboration with the Iraqi and Kuwaiti foreign ministries and Tajik and Iraqi intelligence agencies, UNICEF and other international organizations, 84 Tajik children were repatriated from Iraq on April 30, 2019.
