Dushanbe Hosts Forum of Representatives of the Relevant Committees of the Parliament of the Member Countries of the Eurasian Group

DUSHANBE, 23.11.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, as part of the 37th plenary meeting of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG), Dushanbe hosted the first forum of representatives of the parliaments of the EAG member countries.
The forum was attended by the heads and representatives of relevant parliamentary committees, interdepartmental committees and commissions, law enforcement agencies, as well as financial intelligence units of the EAG member states.
The participants expressed their determination to improve the national legislation of their countries in order to effectively meet the requirements of international standards on combating the legalization of proceeds from crime, the financing of terrorism and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Along with this, the forum participants emphasized the decisive role of the legislature in regulating social and legal relations and expressed their desire to strengthen national systems for combating the legalization of proceeds from crime and the financing of terrorism through the development and approval of regulatory legal acts.
With a view to further cooperation, exchange of experience and best practices in the implementation of national strategies and the adoption of legislative acts to combat these undesirable phenomena, the participants of the forum systematically supported the initiative to continue working together at such a multilateral level.
The EAG is one of the regional groups such as the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering, i.e. FATF, and was founded in 2004.
The main goal of this group is to promote the strengthening of the national system of combating the legalization of proceeds from crime, the financing of terrorism and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the member countries and the region. It includes 9 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, China and India.
