Twenty Athletes Will Represent Tajikistan at the First Asian Gushtingiri Wrestling Championship

DUSHANBE, 23.06.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On June 27, the first Asian Gushtingiri Wrestling Championship will be held in Dushanbe.
It will be attended by athletes from more than 30 countries. Competitions will be held at the Dushanbe Tennis Palace and Water Sports Complex.
According to Abdullo Saidkhojaev, Secretary General of the International Gushtingiri Federation, about 130 athletes, coaches and guests are expected to take part in the competition.
“Cash prize of the Chairman of Dushanbe for the first place is $ 5,000, the second place — $ 3,000, and the two third places — $ 1,500 each. Competitions will be held in 6 weight categories. Men will compete in five weight categories and women in one. The cash prize is determined separately for all weight categories. Separate cash prizes will also be awarded for team standings, including first place will get $1,500, second place — $1,000 and third place — $500. Tajikistan will be represented at this competition by 20 athletes, two of whom are women,” added Saidkhojaev.
He added that the Gushtingiri Wrestling Federation of Tajikistan plans to hold championships and international competitions within the country and abroad. This also includes the Asian Wrestling Championship, which is scheduled for June 25-30 this year.
“This event is a preparation for the Gushtingiri Wrestling World Championship, which is scheduled for September this year in accordance with the International calendar,” said Saidkhojaev.
