DUSHANBE, 23.11.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan intends to double its clean energy production capacity as a key basis for promoting a green economy. It was said by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on November 21 at a press briefing following his official visit to Russia.
According to him, there are 13,000 glaciers in Tajikistan, which form 60 percent of the water resources of Central Asia.
The country ranks eighth in total reserves of hydropower resources, and second in the world in terms of specific reserves per capita.
“Today Tajikistan produces 98% of its electricity from hydroelectric power plants, that is, from renewable sources of “green” energy, ranking sixth in the world in terms of this indicator. Tajikistan has the potential to locate energy-intensive industries on its territory using “green” energy with minimal impact on the environment. We express our readiness to develop constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia in these areas,” said Emomali Rahmon.
