Role of Hydropower in the Process of Adapting to Climate Change and Ensuring Sustainable Development Discussed in Dubai

DUSHANBE, 05.12.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – The important role of hydropower in the process of adaptation to climate change and ensuring sustainable development was discussed by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Juma on December 3 on the sidelines of COP28 at the session “Ensuring sustainable growth through hydropower.”
It was noted the construction of the Rogun HPP, which produces environmentally friendly energy, the CASA-1000 project and Tajikistan’s plans for the development of renewable energy sources, as well as it was assessed as a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring water and energy security in the Central Asian region.
Also, as part of the COP28, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources met with the President of the International Hydropower Association Malcolm Turnbull.
The meeting meeting focused on issues related to expanding cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources and the International Hydropower Association, Tajikistan’s plans for the development of renewable energy sources and how the Association can assist in attracting international investment for Tajikistan.
Representatives of the TGEM Open Joint Stock Company provided the International Hydropower Association with information on Tajikistan’s priority plans for the development of renewable energy sources.
Following the meeting, the parties decided to further strengthen cooperation in the field of attracting investments and developing renewable energy sources.
