DUSHANBE, 15.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – As of May 10, more than 2,100 tons of early-harvest onions were stored in warehouses in the Jabbor Rasulov district of Sughd Region.

The onions are mainly transported from the Khatlon Region, including from the districts of Shahritus, Jayhun, and the city of Tursunzoda.

Currently, around 800 seasonal workers are employed at the storage facilities, with plans to increase that number to 1,700 in the coming weeks.

Local officials have been instructed to enhance export volumes, improve labor conditions, and provide support to farmers and entrepreneurs engaged in onion production and trade.

In Mehrobod Jamoat, a warehouse facility covering 1.17 hectares has been operating since 2021. It stores and packages onions for export, primarily to Russia. In May and June alone, over 6,000 tons of onions are expected to be reserved for export.

Additionally, around 1,000 tons of onions will be stored for the autumn season in October and November for winter preservation.

At present, nine major onion storage centers are operational in the district, serving as key hubs for exports to foreign markets, including Kazakhstan and Russia.
