Khatlon Sees Boost in Tourism from Both Local and Foreign Visitors
DUSHANBE, 22.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – The Khatlon Region experienced a significant increase in tourist arrivals in the first four months of 2025, welcoming 272,454 visitors — a rise of 133,548 compared to the same period in 2024.
According to the Department for Tourism Development of the Executive Body of State Authority of Khatlon Region, 248,591 of these were domestic tourists, while 23,863 were international visitors.
Khatlon continues to attract both local and foreign tourists thanks to its rich array of historical, cultural, and natural attractions. The region boasts hundreds of heritage sites, numerous museums and parks, as well as a growing network of tourism companies and hotels.
Supporting infrastructure has also improved, with a wide selection of restaurants, teahouses, guesthouses, souvenir shops, ATMs, and tourist information centers enhancing the visitor experience. Road signage and roadside amenities have been developed to facilitate easier travel across the region.
Among the most notable attractions are the Sari Khosor Waterfall, Childukhtaron Mountain, Chiluchorchashma Spring, the ancient city of Ajinateppa, Khoja Mashhad Madrasa, the Takhti Sangin archaeological complex, and the Mausoleum of Mir Said Ali Hamadoni.
Visitors also flock to the unique «Tiger Gorge» nature reserve and the Norak Hydroelectric Power Plant — one of the largest in Central Asia.
The continued growth in tourism underscores the region’s potential as a key destination in Tajikistan’s travel industry.
