An innovative digital tourism initiative, the “QR Guide” project, was presented at a regular meeting of the Coordination Council for Tourism Activities under the Dushanbe Executive body of state authority, according to the city’s Tourism Development Department.
Implemented at the initiative of the Dushanbe City Executive Authority, the project aims to strengthen tourism infrastructure, provide residents and visitors with reliable information about the capital’s historical, cultural and tourist attractions, and support the goals of the “Years of Digital Economy and Innovation Development — 2025-2030” program.
The QR Guide system builds on efforts to develop tourism and expand digital services, helping increase awareness of Dushanbe’s attractions while promoting knowledge of Tajik history and culture.
Developed in cooperation with civil society institutions, the project allows users to access detailed information about 45 historical, cultural and tourist sites across the capital by scanning QR codes. Information is available in Tajik, Russian and English in both text and audio formats.
The next phase of the project is expected to add Chinese and Arabic language options. Marble information signs bearing QR codes have been installed near key tourist attractions in the city. The content is hosted on Dushanbe Travel, the capital’s official tourism portal, and was prepared by specialized experts.
The growing use of smartphones and digital platforms by travelers has increased demand for quick and convenient access to information. They said the QR Guide system responds to modern tourism industry requirements and represents an important step in the digitalization of tourism services in Dushanbe.
According to project organizers, QR codes provide tourists with access to accurate, multilingual information while reducing the need for large information boards and allowing content to be updated regularly. The initiative is also expected to support the modernization of tourism infrastructure and align services with international standards.
The QR Guide as an important component of a broader digital tourism ecosystem. They said the project is expected to strengthen Dushanbe’s competitiveness in the international tourism market, improve visitor experiences and promote the capital’s historical and cultural heritage.
QR guide systems are widely used in developed cities around the world as part of “Smart City” strategies, and officials said the launch of the project marks a significant step toward creating a modern digital and tourism environment in Dushanbe.
