Tajikistan presents sustainable development priorities at UN High-Level Political Forum

DUSHANBE, July 16, 2026 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan presented its position on sustainable development and global water cooperation during the 2026 UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on July 14.
Tajikistan’s Minister of Economic Development and Trade Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda addressed the forum, highlighting the country’s role in promoting international water initiatives under the UN framework and contributing to the global water agenda.
He stressed that accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals requires stronger international partnerships, predictable and sustainable financing, and expanded global cooperation.
On the sidelines of the forum, Abdurahmonzoda held meetings with UN Development Programme Administrator Alexander De Croo and Director of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation Dima Al-Khatib.
The discussions focused on the implementation of Tajikistan’s Mid-Term Development Programme for 2026–2030, localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals, economic digitalisation, green economy initiatives, climate change, glacier protection, water resource management and sustainable industrial development.
The sides also exchanged views on the outcomes of the Fourth Dushanbe International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028” and related side events.
The meetings concluded with a commitment to further strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
