A joint virtual exhibition of Tajik and Iranian traditional arts, titled “One Heritage, Two Lands,” will be held Aug. 25 in connection with the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence and as part of international cooperation between the National Museum of Tajikistan and Iran’s Golestan Palace World Heritage Complex, the National Museum told NIAT Khovar.
The exhibition will feature more than 25 works of Tajik kundalnigori from the National Museum’s collection. The pieces were created in different years by renowned Tajik masters, including Mirzorahmat Olimov, Rahim Akhmadov, Karomatullo Ghayurov, Yusuf Raupov, Mahmadkarim Rakibov, Toshpulod Khayitov, Rahim Abdurakhmonov, Ayub Burhonov, Anvarsho Sayfuddinov, Mehrona Umarova, Shavkat Khujayarov, Behruz Boymurodov and Muhammad Hikmatzoda.
Kundalnigori is an ancient and distinctive form of traditional Tajik decorative painting. Researchers trace its emergence and development to the 15th and 16th centuries. Its designs primarily feature botanical, geometric, Islamic and zoomorphic motifs, with blue and sky-blue backgrounds predominating and yellow used in some compositions.
The exhibition will also showcase the art of Golestan Palace tilework, representing an important stage in the development of Iranian decorative arts. The elaborate seven-color tiles, featuring floral and vegetal motifs, court scenes and other decorative elements, reflect the cultural, political and social history of the Qajar era and the continuity of Iranian artistic traditions.
The exhibition will be presented in a virtual 3D format on a dedicated Golestan Palace website and will remain available for one month to audiences in Tajikistan, Iran and other countries.
“One Heritage, Two Lands” is intended to showcase valuable examples of Tajik and Iranian art, strengthen cultural ties between the two countries and expand international cooperation in preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
