DUSHANBE, 13.03.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide Tajikistan with 94 ambulances in 2020. This was provided on March 11 by the JICA Chief Representative in Tajikistan Hideki Tanabe at a press conference.

Last July in Dushanbe, Tajik Finance Minister Fayziddin Kahhorzoda and JICA Chief Representative in Tajikistan Hideki Tanabe signed a grant agreement, according to which, Japan will provide Tajikistan with 94 ambulances in the amount of over 771 million Japanese yen ($ 7.1 million).

Ambulances equipped with the necessary equipment for saving people, defibrillators, and resuscitation kits. They will be handed over hospitals throughout Tajikistan.

While speaking about JICA activities in Tajikistan, Tanabe noted that JICA began technical cooperation with Tajikistan in 1993 by inviting civil servants to study in Japan in order to gain knowledge and experience in the management and development of macroeconomics, which was important for peace and stability in the country.

“The JICA Office in Tajikistan was established in 2006 as a branch of the JICA Office in Uzbekistan. Since that time, various projects of free financial and technical assistance have been dynamically implemented to improve the living standards of the Tajik population in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and transport. The JICA project portfolio in Tajikistan currently consists of 38 projects totaling more than $ 400 million ($ 83.7 million in technical assistance and $ 316.7 million in grant assistance), of which 15 projects are ongoing,” Tanabe said.
