Tajikistan Chairs Meeting of the UN Special Working Group on the Economy of Central Asia

DUSHANBE, 15.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, on the sidelines of the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda chaired a regular meeting of the SPECA Working Group on Trade.
The conference was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of leading international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland.
Abdurahmonzoda provided detailed information on the implementation of the goals of the SPECA strategy on trade facilitation, new initiatives for standardization and digitization of data in the areas of trade, transport and document exchange, efforts to achieve sustainable trade in the SPECA sub-region and the practice of Tajikistan in the process of joining the WTO.
He noted that in order to fulfill the instructions of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the Government, a number of significant works were carried out in the direction of simplifying trade procedures. In particular, the Coordinating Committee on Trade Facilitation was established, the Trade Portal of Tajikistan and the system “Single Window for Registration of Export, Import and Transit Operations in Tajikistan” were officially put into operation, and several strategic documents related to trade were adopted, which contributes to the implementation of strategic SPECA goals up to the mark and strengthening regional trade integration.
Tajikistan leads the SPECA Working Group on Trade, and its meetings are held annually as part of SPECA events in one of the countries of the region.
Following the event, Abdurahmonzoda presented specific recommendations on strengthening further cooperation in the field of trade between interested countries.
