Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Discuss the Creation of Transboundary Protected Areas

DUSHANBE, 15.02.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – On the sidelines of the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS COP14), on February 13, the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection of Tajikistan Bahodur Sheralizoda met with the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov.
The meeting focused on issues regarding the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on environmental protection and rational use of natural resources.
The parties also discussed topics related to cooperation in increasing the population of urials, other wild animals and birds in the Romit State Nature Reserve and in various regions of Tajikistan, the creation of transboundary protected areas and joint activities related to increasing the knowledge of specialists in the management of protected areas, as well as a number of other issues.
Sheralizoda invited Abdukhakimov to the Third Dushanbe Water Conference, which will be held in June this year.
