Climate Change and Glacier Research Center established at Khujand State University

DUSHANBE, 15.01.2025 /NIAT Khovar/. Climate Change and Glaciers Research Center has been established at the Faculty of Geoecology and Tourism of Khujand State University named after Academician Bobojon Gafurov. This initiative was implemented within the years of study and development of natural, exact and mathematical sciences — 2020-2040 and the announcement of 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation.
According to Khujand State University, the opening ceremony of the Center was attended by representatives of the Executive Body of the State Authority of Sughd region and the leadership of the University.
It is reported that the Center’s activities will cover various areas, including conducting scientific research on glaciers and climate change, studying best international practices and their implementation in Tajikistan, organizing seminars, trainings and conferences on issues related to climate and glaciers.
It is worth noting that the establishment of such a Center is an important step in the field of nature conservation in the country, development of ecology and climatology, and expansion of research work on geo-ecological problems, including glacier melting, climate change and transformation of natural ecosystems.
