RCCI: CASA-1000 to help meet rising energy demand
Dushanbe, 17.05.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) hopes for the early execution of a mega power project that was launched last week in Tajikistan, Pajhwok agency reports.
The Central Asia-South Asia (CASA-1000) project as a key step toward regional connectivity will export surplus electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan via Afghanistan.
RCCI President Mian Humayun Pervez welcomed the project’s inauguration, hailing it as a gigantic leap towards bridging the increasing gap between energy demand and supply.
The mega project would help boost the trade ties between the regional countries, he has hoped. “The economy is taking a sharp leap and we need more energy to meet our industry demands.”
Humayun Pervez said in a statement that CASA-1000 would not only be beneficial for Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, but would also pave the way for more linkages between Central Asia and South Asia.
