Khatlon Farms Increase Cultivation of Grain Crops, Vegetables and Melons
BOKHTAR, 22.04.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – The gross agricultural output in the first quarter of 2020 amounted to 565.7 million somoni, which is 27.5 million somoni (5.1%) more than last year, reported Khatlon’s administration.
Today, Khatlon tries to expand spring plantings and effectively use each plot of land to provide the market with the necessary high-quality agricultural products.
As of April 15, agricultural crops were sown in an area of 252,800 ha, including grain on 127,000 ha, cotton on 77,900 ha, oil crops on 8,551 ha, melons on 8,251 ha, vegetables on 17,554 ha, potatoes on 5278 ha and forage crops on 8280 ha.
During the first quarter of this year, 1,967 tons of vegetables, 15 tons of potatoes and 12.5 tons of fruit were grown in all provincial sectors, which exceeds previous year’s figures.
Khatlon’s Chairman Kurbon Hakimzoda instructed those in charge to pay more attention to sowing crops, potatoes, vegetables and melons, and to continue to utilize 130,000 hectares throughout the province.
Additionally, the chairmen of cities and districts, officials of relevant provincial, city and district organizations and institutions were instructed increase the cultivated area of household plots to 40%, as well as potato production — to 60%.
