Economic Minister Meets with UN Resident Coordinator for Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 21.08.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda met with the UN Resident Coordinator for Tajikistan Sezin Sinanoglu.
The parties discussed the measures taken by the government and the UN plans to prevent the impact of external threats, in particular the spread of the COVID-19.
While presenting the Comprehensive Socio-Economic Response Program for COVID-19 in Tajikistan, Sinanoglu noted that the program with a total budget of more than $61 million focuses on five key areas, including health, protection of people, macroeconomic measures, macroeconomic recovery and social integration.
While briefing on the socio-economic situation in the last seven months and the government’s anti-crisis measures, Zavqizoda asked Sinanoglu to increase UN assistance and its infrastructure to implement the strategic goals and priorities of the Tajik government and state programs.
The parties also expressed their readiness to further expand cooperation in reducing or preventing the negative consequences of the coronavirus pandemic to the national economy, the UNDAF, the Modeling System and Macroeconomic Development Strategy of Tajikistan for 2021-2025, the State Program of Export Development in Tajikistan for 2021-2025 and the Digital Economy Program of Tajikistan for 2021-2025.
