DUSHANBE, 08.12.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – As a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Tajikistan has been actively involved in global trade initiatives, providing an average annual economic growth of 7% and an average annual growth of trade reaching 10%. This was stated on December 6-8 in Geneva at the meetings of the Trade Policy Review of Tajikistan at the WTO.
The event was attended by the official delegation of Tajikistan headed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda along with other WTO members.
Zavkizoda noted that President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon identified strengthening export potential, diversifying exports and simplifying trade procedures as priority areas of the government’s economic policy in the field of trade.
“After joining the WTO, as a result of the measures taken by the government, despite the influence of external factors associated with the economic and financial crises, trade conflicts, economic sanctions of some countries and the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, Tajikistan’s volume of exports has doubled, the list of exported goods has increased 1.8 fold, and industrial production has increased 2.1 times. For the first time in the country, the single window system has been launched to simplify exports, imports and transit operations, as well as the Trade Portal of Tajikistan,” he said.
For almost 9 years as a member in the WTO, Tajikistan has answered more than 156 questions in the economic sphere and comments of the member states.
The chairman of the meetings, Ambassador of Botswana to the WTO and the opponent of the meetings, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Taeho Lee noted their appreciation of the trade policy, as well as the achievements of Tajikistan in the field of trade, in particular, the simplification of trade procedures and activities within the framework of WTO.
