Three Tajik Wrestlers to Attend Grand Slam Championship in Ulaanbaatar
DUSHANBE, 21.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik wrestlers will continue to compete in the world judo season in the Grand Slam Championship, which will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from June 24 through June 26.
Over 200 athletes from 27 countries will be taking part in this international tournament.
The Grand Slam Championship is one of the most prestigious competitions. Tajikistan will be represented by Behruz Khojazoda (73 kg) who returned to the big sport after a two-year treatment, Somon Mahmadbekov (73 kg), and Amirjon Nasimjon (90 kg).
Athletes will compete in seven weight categories between men and women. The prize fund of the competition is €154,000. First place winners will receive €4,000, second place winners will receive €2,400, and those who place third will receive €1,200.
The remaining stages of the Grand Slam Championship this season will be held in Budapest, Zagreb, Abu Dhabi, Baku, and Tokyo.
Tajik athletes also took part in the Tbilisi Grand Slam 2022, which was held from June 3 through June 5.
Tajikistan was represented by Nurali Emomali, Shahboz Saidabrorov (both in the weight category up to 66 kg), Mahmadsharif Najmuddinov, Muhammadrahim Sarakhonov (both in the weight category up to 73 kg), Shodmon Rizoev, Muhammadjon Abdujalilov (both in the weight category -81 kg.), Karomatullo Hakimov (-90 kg), Mansur Rahmon and Abubakr Akobir (both -100 kg).
Among Tajik wrestlers, Shahboz Saidabrorov, Muhammadrahim Sarakhonov, and Shodmon Rizoev showed the best results and took seventh place in their weight category.
