Eurasian Development Bank Invests $650 Million to Implement Priority Projects in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 03.07.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – During 2023-2026, the Eurasian Development Bank will finance $650 million to implement priority projects in Tajikistan. This agreement was reached at the meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda with the Chairman of the EDB Management Board Nikolai Podguzov.
The meeting took place within the framework of the annual meeting of the Council of the Eurasian Development Bank in Astana.
The meeting focused on issues of expanding cooperation between Tajikistan and the Eurasian Development Bank, attracting preferential funds due to the influence of external factors and the anti-crisis plan of the Government, new priority projects based on the country’s development goals and the prospects for medium-term cooperation.
In this regard, a request was made to the Chairman of the EDB Management Board to increase funding for the socio-economic sectors of Tajikistan in order to achieve the strategic goals and priorities of the Government, including the development of a green economy, industrialization, strengthening export potential, digital economy and social spheres.
The EDB side expressed its readiness to increase funding for projects in these areas and assured that the Bank’s investment portfolio in Tajikistan would increase to 5% of the Bank’s total investment portfolio.
To date, the EDB and its structures have 13 investment projects for a total of $266.4 million, including 7 grant and preferential projects of the Eurasian Stability and Development Fund for the amount of $215 million and 6 projects of the Bank itself for the amount of $51.4 million were implemented in various sectors of the economy.
