Share of Non-cash Transactions Increased in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 15.02.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – The total number of bank payment cards issued in circulation as of December 31, 2023 in Tajikistan amounted to 6.7 million units. This figure increased by 32.6% compared to 2022. It was reported yesterday by the Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Firdavs Tolibzoda during a press conference.
The number of e-wallets is 8.7 million units, which increased by 37.6 percent compared to 2022.
In order to make non-cash payments, trade and service enterprises installed 6,939 POS terminals, which is more than 79.2 percent compared to 2022. Also, trade and service enterprises have installed 12.6 uniform QR codes, which is 28% less than the same date in 2022.
In 2023, domestic credit financial institutions of Tajikistan installed 2,240 ATMs and 3,492 electronic terminals at the cash desks of structural divisions of banks.
In 2023, 21.8 million non-cash transactions to pay for goods and services worth 15.5 billion somoni were made in trade institutions and points of provision of services through electronic means of payment (payment cards and electronic wallets).
It was noted that in 2023, the ratio of cash withdrawal transactions and non-cash payment transactions for goods and services using electronic payment instruments was 80 percent to 20 percent, the share of non-cash transactions increased by 8 percentage points compared to 2022.
