DUSHANBE, 17.05.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva visited the facilities of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) as part of her visit to Tajikistan.
The guests were warmly welcomed by representatives of the city of Rogun and the Rogun HPP.
Georgieva and her entourage got acquainted with the progress of work at the plant facilities under construction, including the core of the world’s highest rocky-sand dam of an energy facility with a height of 335 meters.
During the visit of the guests, in the construction of the dam work was carried out on laying materials, strengthening the left and right sides of the dam core and cementing its sides.
It was very interesting for visitors to see the general construction site of the facility from the upper observation deck of the HPP, located at an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level.
The guests got an up-close look at the unique modern equipment installed in the GIS building (SF6 gas insulated switchgear), which distributes the electricity generated by the РЗЗ into the country’s energy system via power transmission lines.
During the visit to the turbine room, it was paid much attention to the operation of the first two units, which produce electricity under low reservoir pressure with minimal power, and the continuous preparatory work for the installation of the next units of the plant.
Following the visit, the IMF Managing Director Georgieva answered questions of journalists and expressed her deep impression on the progress of construction of this huge facility.
She said, in particular: ““Rogun” is the hope and dream of Tajiks for constant electricity and country’s sustainable economic development, as well as the hope and dream of Tajikistan’s neighbors for inexpensive electricity. “Rogun” is also a source of green energy, and therefore we will fully support this huge facility.”
