DUSHANBE, 31.01.2025 /NIAT “Khovar”/. On 30 January 2025, Jonibek Hikmat, Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations, met with Ana Claudia Marinheiro Centeno Rossbach, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in the field of sustainable urban development and underscored the urgency of accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on urban sustainability, infrastructure development, and climate change adaptation.
The Permanent Representative provided an overview of Dushanbe’s achievements in sustainable urban development, including the presentation of the city’s Voluntary Local Review (VLR) at the 12th World Urban Forum in Cairo.
He emphasized the importance of involving UN-Habitat in the implementation of Tajikistan’s urban development strategy and in the upcoming High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation, which will be held in Dushanbe from 29 to 31 May 2025.
In conclusion, both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening technical cooperation and implementing capacity-building initiatives aimed at developing sustainable urban infrastructure in response to climate change.
