Tajikistan and China Agree to Establish Mechanism for Resolving Customs Statistical Discrepancies

DUSHANBE, 23.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral trade and customs cooperationn, the Customs Service of Tajikistan and the General Administration of Customs of China agreed to establish a mechanism to address discrepancies in customs statistics. The agreement was reached on the sidelines of the second meeting of the heads of customs services of Central Asian countries and China, held in Almaty on May 21.
The Tajik delegation, led by Khurshed Karimzoda, Chief of the Customs Service of Tajikistan, engaged in detailed discussions with the Chinese delegation headed by Sun Meijun, Minister and Secretary of the Party Committee of China’s General Administration of Customs.
Key issues addressed during the meeting included enhancing documentation processes for cross-border goods movement, advancing digital communication tools between customs authorities, implementing more effective risk assessment frameworks, and improving systems for the exchange of preliminary customs information.
A focal point of the discussions was the ongoing issue of statistical discrepancies between the two nations. To resolve this, both sides agreed on the necessity of creating a robust mechanism to harmonize customs statistics. This will involve appointing dedicated contact points and establishing a joint working group focused on aligning and standardizing the customs data exchange process.
This collaboration marks a crucial step in furthering Tajikistan’s economic ties with China, ensuring more efficient trade and customs operations in the future.
