DUSHANBE, 29.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – To the sound of earnest classic music played by students from the Confucius Institute in Dushanbe, three BYD NEVs carrying CGTN reporters rolled out from the China-Tajikistan Cultural Exchange Center — officially kicking off the two-week  Central Asia Expedition on May 28th.

Jointly planned by CGTN and leading media organizations from Central Asian countries, the initiative comes ahead of the second China–Central Asia Summit. It aims to revisit this ancient and mysterious land through the lens of reporters.

Deep Cultural Connection Between China and Tajikistan

At the launch ceremony, students from the Confucius Institute dressed in traditional Chinese attire, performed classic Chinese pieces Galloping Horses and Maiden’s Love. The melodies resonated across the Central Asian city, showcasing the deep cultural integration and emotional bond between China and Tajikistan.

“I really love China and Chinese culture,” said Anxin, a student from the Confucius Institute. “I believe there are many similarities between Tajik and Chinese culture.”

As the notes floated through the air, what we heard was more than just music — it was a resonance that transcended language and borders.

Tracing the Path of China–Central Asia Cooperation

Over the next two weeks, our focus will be on the achievements of China–Central Asia cooperation and the stories of the people behind them, painting a picture of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation that is viable, stable, and far-reaching.

One highlight in Tajikistan is the Phase II project of the China–Tajikistan highway. This crucial artery, crossing highlands and mountains, is not only a major infrastructure milestone, but also a bridge that connects people and hearts.

Suhrob Nurullo, Director of the Asia Department of the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan, said at the launch: “Since the construction of the China–Tajikistan highway began, our infrastructure cooperation with China has deepened significantly. So far, we’ve carried out 13 joint projects. Phase II is extremely challenging, and we are grateful for the support of Chinese companies. Once completed, this road will greatly enhance bilateral exchanges on all fronts.”

A Journey of Warmth and Wonder

Beyond infrastructure and development stories, we will also immerse ourselves in everyday Central Asian life: documenting the majestic snow-capped peaks of the Pamir Plateau, the crystal-blue waters of Issyk-Kul Lake, and the rich folk traditions of ancient Silk Road cities.

This is not just a reporting mission — it is a journey of cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
