DUSHANBE, July 24, 2026 (NIAT Khovar) – Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Firdavs Tolibzoda met with representatives of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Dushanbe to discuss the development of sustainable finance.

The meeting also focused on strengthening the country’s green financial system, attracting investment to environmentally sustainable projects, and expanding future cooperation.

Tolibzoda noted that climate change has become not only an environmental challenge but also a key economic and financial issue. He emphasized that developing a green finance system is among the priorities of Tajikistan’s economic policy. The National Bank is implementing measures to create a favorable environment for mobilizing private investment, developing the capital market, and managing climate-related financial risks.

In this context, participants highlighted the issuance of Tajikistan’s first corporate green bond by Eskhata Bank, supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), as an important milestone for the further development of the country’s capital market and sustainable financing.

The parties also discussed the provision of technical assistance by GGGI to help develop the legal and institutional framework for green finance, strengthen institutional capacity, and identify projects that meet green financing standards.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation to promote sustainable finance, strengthen the capital market, attract long-term investment, and support the issuance of quasi-sovereign green bonds in Tajikistan.
