With One Exception, Trade Turnover with CIS Countries Has Decreased

DUSHANBE, 23.12.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – The volume of trade between Tajikistan and CIS countries in 2020 has decreased by over 6%, reports the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

Trade turnover from January through November 2020 saw a 6.2% decline compared to the same period in 2019.

The total volume of transactions has amounted to over $2.1 billion. CIS countries account for 50.9% of the country’s total trade turnover.

Although trade with the rest of the CIS has countries has decrease, the volume of trade with Belarus has increased by 84%. The same is true for Azerbaijan, with a 7.9% increase.

According to the Agency for Statistics, Tajikistan’s main trading partners within the CIS are Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Russia remains Tajikistan’s main trading partner. According to the official data, the trade turnover between the two countries has amounted to $721.3 million in the past 11 months, with exports reaching $25.5 million, and imports $695.8 million.

The amount of trade with Kazakhstan has reached $795.8 million, while with Uzbekistan it has amounted to $300.4 million.

According to the Export Agency, the sum of Tajikistan’s exports has also reached new levels, exceeding $1.32 billion.
