DUSHANBE, 13.06.2024 /NIAT Khovar/. «I visited Dushanbe back in my student days — in 1977. The present Dushanbe is incomparable to the past years. Today’s conference is a unique platform. Not every country can organize such a conference, raise such important issues and take initiatives,» Fazliddin Hikmatov, professor of the Department of Land Hydrology at the Mirzo Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan, told NIAT’s Khovar correspondent.
According to the interlocutor, the presence at the conference of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan respected Emomali Rahmon, his speech and scientific review of the current state of climate, environment, especially the state of glaciers in Tajikistan surprised him very much.
«I am very happy and received good impressions,» Fazliddin Hikmatov said, adding that Uzbekistan highly appreciates the initiatives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to declare 2025 the «International Year of Glacier Preservation». Glaciers are natural regulators of moisture. Without them, there will be no life, because the main sources of water — the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers — start from glaciers.
