Tajikistan’s Demand for Ferrous Metals Expected to Exceed 2.3 Million Tons Annually by 2035

DUSHANBE, 14.07.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan’s demand for ferrous metals and related products is growing steadily, with consumption expected to exceed 2.3 million tons annually by 2035, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon said on July 9 during a meeting with leaders and public representatives of Sughd Province and workers of the country’s industrial sector in Bobojon Ghafurov District.
The President noted that in 2016 Tajikistan imported 307 thousand tons of ferrous metals worth USD 191 million, while by 2025 import volumes had increased to more than one million tons, with a total value of USD 584 million.
It was emphasized that over the past decade, the volume of ferrous metal imports into the country has increased more than threefold.
According to forecasts, taking into account the pace of national economic growth, the implementation of major energy, transport and construction projects, as well as the strategic goal of rapid industrialization, Tajikistan’s annual demand for ferrous metals may exceed 2.3 million tons by 2035, with the value of imports surpassing USD 1.5 billion.
The Head of State noted that the country’s total demand over the next decade is expected to reach approximately 18 million tons, with a value exceeding USD 11 billion.
It was also reported that in 2025 alone Tajikistan imported more than 600 thousand tons of reinforcing steel bars.
